Gary R. Howard has 35 years of
experience in diversity leadership and training,
including 28 years as the Founder and President of the
REACH Center for Multicultural Education. Mr. Howard
completed his undergraduate and graduate work in
Cultural Anthropology and Social Psychology at Yale
University. He Holds a Masters Degree in Education.
He has served as an Adjunct Professor at both Western
Washington University and Seattle University. Mr. Howard
has provided extensive training in cultural awareness to
schools, universities, social service agencies, and
businesses throughout the United States and Australia.
has developed collections of curriculum materials which
are being used internationally. His most recent book, We
Can't Teach What We Don't Know, was published by
Columbia University in 1999 and is considered a pioneer
piece examining the role of White leaders and educators
in a multicultural society. In addition to providing the
leadership for the REACH Center and diversity workshops
for a wide variety of organizations, Mr. Howard is
frequently asked to deliver keynote addresses at
regional and national conferences. In these
presentations he draws on a wide range of experiences
and travel exploring diversity issues with leaders from
many cultures around the world.

Colleen
E. Almojuela, Senior Advisor
For over 25 years,
Colleen E. Almojuela, former Executive Director
of the REACH Center in Seattle, WA, has
been involved in the fields of Indian
education and multicultural education.
Ms. Almojuela is a member of the Squamish
Nation located in North Vancouver,
British Columbia, Canada. Ms. Almojuela
has provided an extensive amount of
leadership training and teaching to
education institutions and social service
agencies throughout the United States,
Canada and Australia. Ms. Almojuela
completed her undergraduate degree in
Curriculum and Instruction, with an
emphasis in Native American Studies from
The Evergreen State College; and has done
graduate work at the University of
Washington's School of Education,
Curriculum and Instruction. She also
holds a Master's degree in Human
Development, with a specialization on
Leadership, from Pacific Oaks College.
Her professional associations include
state and national Indian Education and
Multicultural Education organizations. She
is on the Board of Directors for the
Washington State Multicultural Education
Association and serves on the Washington
State Indian Education Advisory Board.
Throughout her years of involvement, Ms.
Almojuela has published several Native
American children's books and edited
several curriculum manuals for
educators. She has spent several years in
the classroom teaching at many levels,
from preschool children through
college-level adults.
Karen
Aurand, Director of
Administrative Services
Karen Aurand has been with REACH since
its founding in the Arlington School District,
Arlington, WA. She has provided 30 years of dedication
and unwavering service to the vision of REACH. Karen
manages the REACH office and coordinates REACH trainings
held in Seattle and throughout the United States,
Australia, and Canada. She also handles all curriculum
materials and books sales. She communicates with the
board, staff and over 200 certified trainers. Ms.
Aurand is currently concentrating on coordinating
and editing the update of REACH curriculum.
Diane
Christiansen, Accountant
Diane brought her
extensive knowledge and skills to REACH
in 1999, and has assisted the
organization with reorganizing our entire
accounting system to make it easier to
track and manage. Diane has many years
experience in accounting service to
non-profit organizations.
